Derick captures the title

Derick jumped out to a huge early lead and held on to beat Phil 150-117 in the Gazette ACC championship game.

Lewis Clinch scored 43 points, Rakim Sanders 36 and Greivis Vasquez 34 to help Derick avenge his last loss of the season (138-118 in Game 12). He won his final four games to finish 12-4.

Derick scored his highest total of the season -- 35 points higher than his average -- and held Phil 20 below his average. Toney Douglas (30 points), Gerald Henderson (22), Jeff Teague (22) and Ben McCauley (24) scored below their averages for Phil, who saw an 11-game winning streak come to an end.

Derwin Kitchen (19) was the only player to surpass his average for Phil, the regular-season champion who finished 14-2. His only two losses came at the hands of Derick, who won the first meeting 132-127 in Game 4.

Box score

Derick wins $250 -- not to mention bragging rights -- for his victory. He had also earned an additional $5 for his Game 13 win.

Phil's consolation prize is $35 in addition to the $100 he had already secured for the regular-season title. He also led the league in scoring in six games for a total of $30. In all, his prize winnings total $165.

Other money winners include Geoffrey ($15), Jon ($10) and Richard ($5).
