It was a week for the underdog as all four lower seeds pulled off upsets in the first round of the Gazette ACC Fantasy League.
No. 8 seed Justin held regular-season champion Derick to his fourth-lowest total of the season on his way to a 96-87 victory. Fifth-seeded Bernie rode a 52-point effort from T.J. Warren to a 122-90 win over No. 4 seed Richard. Those results put Justin and Bernie in one of this weekend's semifinals.
On the other side of the bracket, seventh-seeded Paul got 31 points from his fifth player, Robert Carter Jr., in a 111-89 upset over No. 2 seed Gabe. A 34-point effort from a banged-up Pat Connaughton led No. 6 seed Phil to a 97-97 tie with No. 3 seed Geoffrey, with Phil winning the bench tiebreaker 61-26. Phil and Paul will meet in this weekend's other semifinal.
