IMPORTANT LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT

I noticed a few Game 11 lineup errors that had a ripple effect into the next two scoring periods. Correcting these errors has resulted in a change in winner for four games.

Apparent source of the problem: It appears that for those who didn’t issue lineup changes for Game 11, I mistakenly reverted to the Game 9 lineups. I’m not sure how this happened but maybe somehow the snow that suspended Game 9 confused me. Whatever the case, it’s my fault.

The fallout: For some teams, this was no big deal because the Game 9 lineups were identical to those for Game 10. For others, it made a huge difference, most notably for Will, who never took Ian Miller out of the starting lineup after moving him back in his top five for Game 10. If I listed your lineup incorrectly for Game 11 and you didn’t note any changes for Game 12, then that same error repeated itself in Game 12 and possibly Game 13.

Outcome changes in a nutshell (details at the end of this post): Will wins Games 11 (against Richard), 12 (against Justin) and 13 (against Bernie) — all of which were initially recorded as losses for Will. In fourth game with a different outcome, Paul becomes the winner against Bernie in Game 12. In summary, Will picks up three wins, Paul adds one win, Bernie loses two, Justin has an extra loss and Richard also has an extra loss.

Playoff implications: The corrections didn’t change the fact that the following seven teams had already clinched playoff spots entering Game 14: Derick, Gabe, Geoffrey, Richard, Bernie, Justin and Phil. What changed is that Paul, now with a 6-7 record, had actually clinched the final playoff spot entering Game 14. Mike Banks entered Game 14 with a chance to tie Paul for the eighth-best record, but Paul owns the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Side note: To those who disagree with making these retroactive changes, please understand that these are correctable mistakes and accuracy is the goal. This is a reminder that each team owner should be diligent in checking his own score after results have been posted. For the remainder of the season, I ask every playoff participant to list his entire starting lineup (even if there are no changes from the previous game) by commenting on that game’s schedule on the blog. No texts. No emails. Lineups must be posted as a comment on the appropriate blog entry.
