  1. Dwayne Collins didn't play. That hurt.

  2. That's a horrible rule. We need to have a mechanism in place to accommodate for when a player does not play. The spirit of this league, it seems to me, is to have 5 players take on 5 players. To win a game, much less a tourney game, because 5 players can beat 4 players is not right.
Dorenzo Hudson did not play for me on Virginia Tech yesterday. He's the 2nd leading scorer on my team. Right now he has zero points.
I still have Degaund on my bench who hasn't yet played. It seems to me that I should be allowed to insert Degaund into the starting lineup in place of Hudson, who DID NOT PLAY.
This still puts me at a huge disadvantage because I'm placing in the lineup a bench player who might average about 6 fantasy points in place of my second leading scorer, who averags about 20 or so fantasy points. Nevertheless, the opportunity to earn SOME points is better than NONE.
Another solution is to use the season average of the fantasy player who does not play in a game. So for Gabe, he would be given Dwayne Collins' season average in fantasy points since Collins didn't play yesterday. I'd have Hudson's season average in points.
A third potential solution is to use the TOTAL BENCH AVERAGE for the week in place of the player who did not play.
I got burned by this earlier in the season (against Bernie, ironically, I believe) but didn't say anything then because I figured we could address it at the end of the season but now that I might POTENTIALLY lose again in the playoffs because of this AND since I'm not the only one (as Gabe shows), I figured I'd throw it out there.
    Thoughts? Suggestions? Solutions?

  3. I don't think we should change rules mid-season, so my ruling is that the semifinal lineups stay as they are. If the majority of the league wants to overrule me, you better do it before the championship begins Thursday.

I just finished tabulating scores and it doesn't matter anyway. Geoffrey won despite the goose egg in his lineup, and Gabe's top bench scorer wouldn't have put him over the top.

If many of you feel we should address this issue in the offseason, please leave your comments here on the blog.

  4. Yeah, I'm with Phil, it's up to the owner to make sure his players are healthy and in the lineup every week.

With so little player movement in this league, managing your roster is where all the strategy lies. Taking that away and giving folks a pass when a player is hurt defeats the entire point of the game, in my mind.

  5. Derick,

That's where timing comes into play in terms of different players/teams playing on different dates. So, for example, two of my bench players (Strickland and Degaund) play on Thursday night. The injured player who may or may not play (Hudson from Virginia Tech) plays on Friday. Therefore, if I wait until Friday to see if Hudson plays (which I'm assuming will be a gametime decision), I only have one bench option available to me to substitute. I'm fortunate to have a bench option at all. If all my bench players played BEFORE the injured player's game, then I'd be SOL under the current ruling.
I'm just saying that a game, any game, but most certainly not a CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, shouldn't be a handicap match (5 on 4). To say that such a scenario is an example of some deft strategic maneuvering is crazy. As crazy as saying a Dook player should win the ACC POY award over your boy GREEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVIIIIIISS. Yes, THAT crazy.
It's really just a matter of poor timing, dumb luck and injury.
